All You Challenge - Day 4

Today the baby and I made a stop at Aldi's. If you haven't shopped at Aldi's before, I encourage you to do so. I get a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, fresh dairy and some canned products there. The prices are unbeatable. I love how simply the store is laid out and sometimes it's just a relief to only have a few choices. I actually feel at ease when I shop there. But anyway, my trip today consisted of:

My total for all of that was only 19.35! I got so much for that. I walked out with a smile on my face! After I dropped the kids off at camp this morning, I ran through McDonald's. I know, shame, shame. So I got 2 burritos for 2.00 and 1 large Coke for 1.00. For a total of 3.07 after tax. So my total for the day was 22.42. That means my total for the week is 85.18 and I have 14.82 left. I don't have any thing I need to buy, so that's good. I would like to get a carton or two of ice cream though!! I can get them for 1.50 at Meijer. Maybe Friday I'll pick some up!!

Lunch today was 3-ways with green beans and fruit salad.

Dinner was blueberry pancakes with sausage links and diced potatoes.

Ingredients:

4 cups Bisquick mix .33
4 Eggs .23
2 cups of milk .20
1 tblsp sugar .05
4 tsp baking powder .10
2 tsp vanilla .20
1 cup of blueberries .66
1 pkg of sausage links .67 (with coupon)
3 medium potatoes .20
butter and syrup for pancakes (we use real syrup) 1.00

Total for the dinner was 3.64

I make pancakes just using the Bisquick recipe, except if you look down at the bottom of the recipe, there's directions for supreme pancakes. I made those and then add in the blueberries. I cook them on a screaming hot griddle, it just takes a minute or two on each side. I cook the sausage in a skillet and I dice the potatoes then saute them in olive oil. I leave the lid on the skillet for the first few minutes, it helps cook the potatoes better and softens them, then I take the lid off and they brown and crisp up. These potatoes are a family favorite!

All You Challenge: Day 3

Today mama had the night off!! We went to kids eat free night at Chick-fil-A. Our family loves Chick-fil-A, the food and the fact that they are a Christian company. It's nice to hear worship songs playing while sitting in the restaurant. Oh and the manners of the employees are something to aspire to! So anyway, we spent a total of 13.80 there.

We also ran into Wal-Mart and I got 6 bottles of Hunt's (no high fructose corn syrup) Ketchup. They were .84 each which equals 5.04 and I used 6 (.20) coupons, so I paid a total of 3.84.

So my total for the day was 17.64. That makes my weekly total 62.76 and I have 37.24 left.

I forgot to mention that my husband works from home and we home school our children, so I make lunch for everyone everyday as well. I don't usually do big lunches, but it's nice to have a second meal together everyday. Our lunch today was macaroni and cheese with peas and tuna and a fruit salad with fresh berries and pineapple. Fresh pineapple is my absolute favorite. I thank God every time I eat it. It's so yummy. And for the past few weeks you could get a whole fresh pineapple for .99 at Aldi's. We've gotten lots of them!! I'm hoping to get another one in the next day or two. I hope they haven't changed the price.

My total for everything was 22.44.

I also ran into Target to get a baby gift and saw the Toy Story Mac n Cheese for .90, so I got one of those as well. So my total for the day is 23.34. So all together this week I've spent 45.12, which leaves me 54.88.

Our meals today:

Breakfast was scrambled eggs and peanut butter toast with oj to drink.

Lunch was sort of a hodge podge, the kids had leftover pizza from the weekend with a mix of berries, Daddy had a salad with berries and I had chicken noodle soup with berries.

Dinner tonight was the Asian Peanut Noodles with Chicken and Broccoli. I am in no way trying to pass off this meal as authentic asian. It's just our own take on it. But anyway, here's how I made it:

Ingredients:

2 chicken breasts 5.11
1lb spaghetti (I use angel hair) 0.00 (with coupon)
1 bag frozen broccoli 0.00 (with coupon)
1 handful of peanuts, chopped .08 (paid .50 for a big jar with coupon!)
1 tblsp sesame seeds .20? (bought a long time ago, not sure of price)
soy sauce to taste (we probably used about 1/4 cup total) .25
1 tsp garlic powder .05
1 tsp onion powder .05
4 fortune cookies .50

Meal total: 6.24

Directions:

Dice chicken and saute in olive oil with a little salt and pepper, until cooked through and lightly brown
Cook spaghetti noodles according to package directions
Cook broccoli with whatever method you choose, we steam ours
Once the chicken is cooked, add the cooked broccoli, 3/4 of the chopped peanuts, 1/2 the sesame seeds, the garlic and onion powders and a few shakes of soy sauce
Once the noodles are ready, drain and sprinkle on a little oil to prevent sticking, then add the chicken and broccoli mixture to the pot
Add more soy sauce as desired
Dish onto plates and then sprinkle each plate with the remaining peanuts and sesame seeds.
Serve with fortune cookies (optional of course!)

This one is pretty yummy. It's relatively new to us, we've made it I think 5 times now. I love it. I'm not one that does much measuring when I cook, so if you find the measurements don't work for you, then please adjust them to suit you. I'm only guessing as to how much we use!

For desert I made a quick banana pudding. I paid .29 for the box of instant pudding (after coupon), 2 cups of milk were .20 (1.59 per gallon at Aldi's!), and a dollop of Reddi-Whip was .27 (1.09 per can after coupon). So the desert total was .76! And it was delicious!

All You Challenge: Day 1

Today is Sunday, so for our family that means that we eat lunch out after church. Every week we take turns picking where it is we'll go to eat. This week it was our daughter Abby's turn to pick and she picked Noodles and Company, one of her favorites!! So we each had a bowl of noodles, the kids had lemonade and Daddy and I had water. Our total was 21.78. I figured about $20 for that meal, so that's pretty close. I'm glad that that meal comes first thing in the week, so I don't have to try and save for it!

So that leaves us 78.22 for the rest of the week. We didn't do any shopping today, but I am planning to do some tomorrow.

Our dinner tonight was one of Daddy's favorites to celebrate Father's Day. We had cheddar cheeseburgers and homemade fries. I'll show you how much I paid for the ingredients to give you an idea of how much our meals cost, but these totals don't count towards the challenge because most of it was already purchased. Our ingredients were:

1.03lb of ground beef 4.11 (this is the natural, hormone free meat from Dorothy Lane Market)
4 whole grain buns 0.00 (bought with coupon)
3 slices of cheddar cheese .41
1 slice of tomato .10
lettuce .07
6 small to medium potatoes .33
canola oil 0.00 (my parents paid for it for a party and I use what's left!)
ketchup .30
A-1 sauce .05 (my son only eats hamburgers with A-1 sauce!)

Total for the dinner was 5.37 and it was restaurant quality!

I thought I'd share how I make the fries because they are really as good if not better than anything you'll get a restaurant. So here's the directions:

Scrub the potatoes
Slice the potatoes lengthwise
Cut the slices to form the fry shape
Heat oil to 300 degrees (I bought a cheap candy thermometer at Wal-Mart a while back and that makes this so much easier).
Put a batch of the fries in and fry for about 6-8 minutes, until they start to get golden. They will still be sort of flimsy and mushy at this point.
Pull the golden fries out and place on a wire rack with newspaper or paper towels underneath.
Continue this until all fries have been fried.
Now crank the heat up to 350 degrees.
Start with your first batch and put them back into the oil for just a couple of minutes (2-3). Until they are browned, crispy and yummy looking!
Place these fries back onto the wire rack and immediately sprinkle salt on them.
Continue until finished with all fries.
Eat and be happy!!

All You Challenge: Pre-Challenge Post

Today's post will be sort of a challenge preview post. I'm going to give you my menu and the ingredients I have stockpiled to use. So here goes!!

I've made a dinner menu of 22 dinners to cook at home (allowing one dinner per week at a kids eat free night and 2 take out pizza nights!). I've tried to make the 22 dinners different, and healthy and something our family enjoys. I find that it's so much easier to guarantee that I'll get a dinner on the table when it's something I look forward to eating. So here's my list (in no particular order):

Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread
Parmesan chicken pasta with carrots and broccoli
Asian peanut noodles with chicken and broccoli
Pepperoni pasta bake with fruit
Chicken tortilla soup and fruit
Chicken noodle soup, biscuits and fruit
Pasta e fagioli soup, garlic bread
Tacos with black beans, rice and corn, pineapples
Pepperjack chicken with rice and corn, pineapples
BBQ pulled pork potato skins with green beans
Cheddar cheeseburgers with homemade fries
Polka dot chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans and applesauce
Crock pot roast with carrots and potatoes
Sausage sandwiches with sauteed potatoes and carrots
Homemade chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and corn
Larosa's style hoagies with chips and fruit
Grilled pork chops with homemade mac n cheese, broccoli
Blueberry pancakes with sausage links
Grilled hot dogs, corn on the cob, chips, fruit
BBQ chicken sandwiches, baked beans, chips, fruit
French toast with bacon, berries
Chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce

For lunches we have lots of choices including: grilled cheese with tomato soup, packaged noodles (either alfredo noodles or mac and cheese) with peas and fruit (mac and cheese also gets tuna), hot dogs, deli sandwiches, pb&j sandwiches, pizza rolls, canned soups, salads, etc. I try to add a serving of fruit and a serving of vegetables with each lunch. The fruits we regularly eat are apples, applesauce, fresh assorted berries, bananas, pineapple (fresh and canned), peaches (fresh and canned) and pears (canned). For the vegetables I usually add carrots, peas, green beans, corn or broccoli.

For breakfast we eat cereal most of the time and I've narrowed down our choices to Cheerios, Wheaties, Corn Flakes or Kix. We also eat oatmeal, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs or toast. The kids have a glass of orange juice with every breakfast as well.

And for snacks and desserts, we usually have on hand, chips and salsa, yogurt, cheese sticks, ice cream, popsicles, pudding. Every now and then I'll make a cake or some brownies.

Oh and drinks wise, the kids drink orange juice in the morning, and then they have one glass of milk and one glass of 100% juice a day with their other two meals and then they drink water in between meals. Steve and I drink milk, iced tea, water and we each have one canned soda a day (our little treat!). I do have a box or two of Capri Suns that I got last year for like .59 a box or something that I use if we're going to be eating in the car or out at like the Reds game or something. But when those run out, I won't be buying more. Let's just say I had 4 boxes of them this time last year and I still have two boxes!

Stockpile

These are things I've stockpiled at rock bottom prices over the last few months. When something is at that low price, I try to stock up on enough to at least last me until a similar sale comes around again. This includes:

Frozen veggies (corn, broccoli, mixed veggies, green beans, peas)
Pasta (spaghetti, penne, etc.)
Rice (boil in bag brown rice)
Hot dogs
Spaghetti sauce (different varieties for different meals)
Canned veggies
Canned fruit (either in 100% juice or the lite variety)
Applesauce (no sugar added)
Chicken stock and broth (no MSG)
Beef broth (no MSG)
BBQ sauce
Salad dressing
Ketchup and mustard
Beans (dry and canned; black, kidney, pinto and great northern)
Pepperoni
Peanut butter
Jelly
Ice cream toppings
Cereal
Oatmeal
Biscuit mix
Flour
Sugar
Baking needs (baking soda, baking powder, spices, salt, cornstarch)
Cheese (shredded and bars)
Iced tea bags
Crackers
Taco shells
Salsa
Boxed mac n cheese
Tuna (canned and in the pouches)

I usually only shop for meat every 2-3 weeks because I go to a local market that's about 35 minutes away and that has locally raised, chemical free meats, so at any given time I have a small stockpile of meats.

So my weekly shopping is usually purchasing fresh fruits and veggies, fresh dairy, fresh breads and buns, anything I need for a particular recipe and then I use whatever money I have left to get "the deals"!!

I've actually been able to also stockpile formula, bottle liners, diapers and wipes for our baby using coupons and following sales. I have enough of all of that to last the length of this challenge, although they said babies don't count towards the total anyway.

Well I think that's all of the pre-challenge info I have right now. Tomorrow starts the contest, so I'll be posting our meals for the day and how much I've spent. My goal is to share our days menu in the evening every day, with it's recipe, and then keep a running tally on the sidebar of how much I've spent. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up!! All You Challenge

Well it's been almost exactly a year since I posted on here, (and what a year it's been!) and while I'm not exactly doing the same type of posts as I did before (although I might be able to get back into that later on), I'm going to use this blog to showcase my attempts at the All You Grocery Challenge! Basically, you sign up to compete for a $1000 grocery gift card and the way it works is that you have to commit to spending only $25 per person per week for groceries and eating out. Infants don't count towards the total, so for our family, we have $100 a week to spend. Luckily you'll be able to also use previously stockpiled ingredients as well. The contest begins June 20th and you can go here to sign up for yourself. Prior to the start of the contest, I'll be sharing the contents of our stockpile, the proposed menu and then during the contest I'll share our grocery trips and tips, recipes and cost breakdowns. I think it will be fun!!

I'm by no means a gourmet chef, but I do enjoy cooking and preparing healthy meals for our family. We've been working on switching over to a more healthful diet over the last year or so and right now at this point this is what it looks like for us:

We eat "real" food and try to avoid man made, chemical laden processed foods. That means butter instead of margarine, sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, real cheese instead of pasteurized cheese product, whole milk (we'd do raw milk if we could) instead of lower fat milks, etc.. You get the point!
We steer clear of fake sweeteners (like those found in diet products).
I make our own seasoning mixes, mostly taco at this point, to avoid extra chemicals (especially that dreaded MSG!)
We use 100% whole wheat bread. Although for buns it's probably a 50/50 split on whether or not they are 100%.
We use brown rice instead of white.
We eat fruits and vegetables (without added sugar or sauces) with lunch and dinner, as well as for snacks. We're currently switching to organic produce, especially those on the top ten list, but we haven't finished that. Especially since I've got so many canned and frozen fruits and veggies to use up.
We try to incorporate beans into at least 2 dinners a week.
We buy locally raised (and hormone, antibiotic free) beef, chicken and pork at a smaller local market in the Dayton area.

We're not by any means super strict with the diet at this point, but we are working hard to give our children healthy starts on their lives. Our son, Noah, used to only want chicken nuggets for every meal. Now he eats vegetables at every meal (carrots are his favorite!), soups full of veggies and beans (and loves them!), homemade meals instead of boxed meals and he loves it. Now, that is. He didn't start out loving it. But we offered him the foods he wasn't too keen on with every meal, and he wasn't allowed treats (snacks or desserts) if he didn't eat the foods he was given and it took awhile, but now he's willing to try anything and usually likes it. It was a lot of work to switch his eating habits, but I'm so glad we pushed through the hard times and are where we are now.

While we are still a "work in progress" in regards to our diet, that doesn't mean we don't occasionally have boxed mac and cheese, hotdogs, or boxed cereal (although that's my current project: weaning off sugary cereals and going to a cheerios only allowance!). We also eat out sometimes. We frequent kids eat free nights at Skyline or Chick-fil-A. We also have lunch out after church every Sunday. And who can resist a Chipotle burrito?? Not me!! I'm happy with our choices at this point. I feel good about working consistently to better our diets and incorporate these healthy choices into our grocery budget. You'd be surprised how easily you can stretch the more expensive healthy meats by adding in beans, rice or pasta.

So anyway, that's what we're doing. I'm sure some of you would laugh at our efforts, saying it's not nearly enough, while others of you may find it useless to worry about. But we are doing the best we can right now and we feel good that we're working very hard to incorporate as much food the way God intended it, as possible. So that's our story and we're sticking to it!!! :)

It's been driving me nuts, not posting something really great or a really cheap meal we've had lately, so I just thought, I'd do when it when I could!! Plus I just checked my Google counter thingy and still have some of you checking here! You definitely deserve some new things to read after all this time!!!

So on Sunday's we always go out to lunch, nothing fancy or anything, but just so that I don't have to come home from church and cook. So we just decided to go to McDonald's. It was 16.xx for our lunch for four people. Yesterday our lunch at home cost about 1.60 for four people. Here's how:

The menu was spaghetti with meat sauce, green beans, pineapples and milk to drink. I bought:

Ronzoni Smart Taste Spaghetti, cost 0 with sale and coupon.

Ragu Pasta Sauce with Meat, cost 0 with sale, manufacturer coupon and store coupon.

Del Monte Canned Green Beans, cost .33 with sale and coupon.

Dole Canned Pineapple in Pineapple Juice, cost .66 with sale and coupon.

4 Glasses of Milk, cost about .50 (milk @ 1.75 per gallon).

Sprinkles of Kraft Parmesean Cheese about .10 (1.99 for the container with sale and coupon).

So the total was about 1.60 for all of us to eat! And it was much healthier!! We could eat 10 lunches at that price for what it cost us to eat out! I get so excited when the meal is so inexpensive!!

Life Is A Changing!!

When you take a test and this is your response............

..............your life is about to change!!!

After taking 6 tests (3 different brands!!), and getting all positives, I think it's official!! We're having another baby!!!

And so with that said, this will be the last post for Thrifty in the Cincy. I always find myself overwhelmed and I really want to try and not get that way anymore. So I'm letting a few things go, so I can truly put all my efforts into those things that are eternally important. In fact, I'm cutting my computer time down all together. I've let myself get wrapped up in it and I use any free time surfing the web, instead of completing something on my many to do lists.

I've found a few local blogs that I really follow now and I'm sure they'd love to have you over there as well. They are:

Why It's So Slow Around Here

Well it's one of those weeks again!!

We just started back to doing our lessons again this week, I don't like the word "school" ;), and we're already planning a big "field trip"!! Well my son turns 9 this Sunday and his absolute love in life is Lego's. We've already taken him to the Lego store in Orlando (Downtown Disney) many times and even to Legoland in California. Well this time we wanted to stay close to home, but still surprise him with a "Lego Trip", so we're going to Chicago!! (Yes, I'm aware of how cold it will be and am making preparations for that!!) They have a Lego Store and a L egoland Discovery Center which has some hands on activities, a small ride, and a few other things, that I think he will love. We had his party this past Sunday and most of the people who came got him Lego Gift Cards, or just money to use there, and he ended up with $210 to spend in the Lego store!! WOW!!! That should be fun!!

And since we're going to Chicago, we thought it would be fun to visit some of the great museums and attractions while we're there. We're leaving Friday and will be back on Monday. Our trip has actually become very frugal. My husband periodically travels for work, so we have enough hotel points for two nights at a hotel and for our third night, we used Priceline and got a great hotel for only $52 after tax and everything. So for three nights, we only have to pay $52 bucks!!

Also, we already have a pass to the Cincinnati Museum Center which allows us to use that pass at many museums across the country for free admission there (what a great benefit!!). So we'll be using that to go to the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium and the Museum of Science and Industry all for free!!

We're also going to the Sears tower (not so frugal!!), having some yummy deep dish Chicago pizza and driving by Wrigley Field!! So for about $400 (including gas, food and transit passes) we can have a 3 night, 4 day trip to Chicago!! I think that's a pretty frugal vacation, especially considering how much we're doing while we're there!!

So anyway, with that being said, I'm a little busy with preparations for that as well as our lessons, so I haven't gotten a chance to post any deals yet, but I will try to get some up today, there are a few good ones!! Sorry!!

Meijer - Ragu and Creamette Deal (12/28 - 1/3)

Meijer is running a great deal this week with Ragu pasta sauce and Creamette pasta. If you buy one jar of Ragu sauce you get one box of Creamette pasta free. I went today to try this out and to see if you could get two free boxes when you buy two jars and it worked!! The best part is that the sauce is on sale for 1.38 each, plus you can use the .50 off 2 coupon from the 11/16 Redplum insert.

So if you buy two sauces and two boxes of pasta the total will be 2.76 (after the free pasta comes off) and you'll get 1.00 off with the coupon (after .50 coupon doubles to 1.00), so you'll pay 1.76 for two sauces and two pastas!! So if you use one sauce and one pasta per meal that's only .88 per meal!!!

Just add some free or cheap veggies from previous deals and you've got two really inexpensive lunches or dinners!!!

Kroger - P&G Super Saver Event

Edited to add that technically the $5 off reward is for other items in your transaction, so just be sure to have at least $5 worth of other products in your order!!

Starting Monday, Kroger is having a P&G Super Saver Event. If you buy $25 worth of select P&G products, you'll get $5.00 off your order automatically at checkout. By combining paper coupons (new ones coming out this weekend, 12/28) and e-coupons found here, we can make a couple of pretty good deals. Now keep in mind, you'll have to do these deals by Wednesday as the e-coupons expire 12/31.

Here's a few deals I found.

Pantene Hair Care Products are 3.29. Use the buy one shampoo or conditioner and get a styler free e-coupon, plus the 3.00 off 2 coupon from the 12/28 P&G insert. You'll pay .29 for two products before the 5.00 discount.

I think that's a pretty great deal!!

My family loves these, in fact I've bought a total of 11 pounds of them in the last 2 weeks!! My son doesn't enjoy regular oranges because of the high amounts of pulp, but he loves these. They are super sweet and yummy and smaller sized to make great snacks for kids and adults.

Even our chocolate lab is gaga over them!! We dropped a piece and she quickly snatched it up and now whenever she sees us opening one, she immediately comes over to beg. Unfortunately for her, her puppy dog eyes don't work all that often!!!

Well I went shopping yesterday, Kroger and Meijer, set everything out for a big picture, took the picture, put everything away, hooked up the camera to download the picture, and surprise it wasn't on there!! I don't know where it is, but I just don't have it in me to set everything up again, so alas, I'll just give you the lists of what I purchased with no picture. I know, it's very sad!! Also, some of the Kroger deals I got, ended yesterday I"m afraid, so they're just for entertainment value!! If deals are entertainment, and I certainly think they are!!!

Meijer - Deals good 12/4 - 12/20

I got:

8 cans of Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup @ .60 each = 4.80. I used two .25 off 4 coupons from the 11/9 Smartsource insert. Paid 3.80 for 8 which is .48 each.

4 bags of Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers Frozen Vegetables @ .79 each. I used four .50 off 1 coupons from the 12/7 Smartsource insert. I paid 0, plus for some reason, she manually put in two of the coupons and they completely doubled so I got .42 overage on the two.

2 Wishbone Salad Spritzers @ 1.34 each. I used two .75 off 1 coupons from the 10/5 Redplum insert. Paid .68 for two (.34 each).

2 Mt. Olive jars of pickles @ 1.67 each. I used two .50 off 1 coupons from a recent insert. Paid 1.34 for two (.67 each).

2 boxes of Jell-O Pudding @ .88 each and 1 container of Cool-Whip @ .79. I used a 1.00 off coupon when you buy all 3 items from the 11/16 Redplum insert. Paid 1.55 for all three items.

1 box of Lipton Iced Tea @ 1.99 (20% off). I used one .50 off 1 coupon from the 11/6 Redplum insert. Paid .99.

2 cans of Dole Tropical Fruit @ .99 each. I used one .55 off 2 coupon from the 11/9 Smartsource insert. Paid .98 for two (.49 each).

.70 worth of bananas (.38 per pound). Paid .70.

I also used one 3.00 catalina I had from a previous order and a 3.00 off $30 order Meijer coupon.

For all of that I paid 17.18 total.

Next was Kroger, some deals still good this week, some not.

6 4-packs of Cottonelle toilet paper @ .99 each. I used six .50 off 1 coupons from the 12/14 Smartsource insert. Paid 0. Plus got an extra .50 off from Shortcuts.com.

2 Daisy Sour Creams @ 1.00 each. I used two .50 off 1 coupons from the 11/16 Smartsource insert. Paid 0.

5 Celestial Seasonings Teas @ 1.00 each. I used five .55 off 1 coupons from the 12/7 Smartsource insert. Paid 0.

1 Fleischman's Yeast 3-pack @ 1.00 each. I used one .45 off 1 coupon from the 12/7 Smartsource insert. Paid .10. Plus I got back a .50 off your next order catalina.

2 Muir Glen Tomato Pastes @ 1.19 each. I used two .75 off 1 coupons from the 10/26 Smartsource insert. Paid .38 for two (.19 each).

4 Half Gallons of Kroger Milk @ 1.00 each. Paid 4.00.

2 Half Gallons of Kroger OJ @ 1.00 each. Paid 2.00.

Kroger Dozen Large Eggs @ 1.00 each.. Paid 1.00.

I found some manager specials clearances including:

Kroger Whole Wheat Tortillas, I paid .59.

Kroger Flour Tortillas, I paid 1.09.

Kroger Whole Wheat Hot Dog Buns, I paid .59.

Fresh Express Salad Mix @ 1.49. I used a .55 off 1 coupon from the 12/7 Smartsource insert. Paid .49.

I recently signed up with vocalpoint and had some coupons from them. With those I got:

1 Crest Weekly Toothpaste @ 3.79. I used one free coupon from vocalpoint. Paid 0. Plus I got an extra dollar off from the P&G Crest Toothpaste loadable coupon.

2 Del Monte Fruit Naturals Cups @ 1.00 each. I used one 1.00 off 2 vocal point coupon. Paid 1.00 for two (.50 each).

I also used four .50 catalinas from doing the Fleischman deal previously. I paid a total of 8.15 at Kroger for a grand total for both stores of only 25.33 of which I was pretty happy with!!

Coupons - Week of 12/14

This weeks coupons should be the last sets we get in 2008!!! There are no scheduled inserts for the other two weeks of the year, due to the holidays. So this Sunday we should be receiving 1 Smartsource, 1 Redplum and 1 P&G insert.

I saw a couple of great deals, first Daisy sour cream coupons for .50 off 1. At Kroger those are on sale for 1.00, so when the coupon doubles they will be free (sale may end Sunday, so you may want to run out and get it that day!)

Also, there is supposed to be a .50 off any 1 4-pack Cottonelle toilet paper. If you get that one, you'll get free toilet paper at Kroger, as they have 4-packs for .99.

I saw lots of coupons for Betty Crocker, Campbell's, Pillsbury, Kellogg's and the usual P&G products. So stock up now and enjoy two weeks off of clipping!!!

I went back to Kroger today and got the above picture for only .44 total!!! I got:

4 Fleischman Yeast Packs @ 1.00 each. I used four .45 off 1 coupons (-3.60) paid .40 and got back four .50 catalina's for my next visit!!!
3 Lifesaver bags @ 1.00 each. I used three 1.00 off 1 coupons from the 10/19 Smartsource so they were all free!!
6 packages of Celestial Seasonings tea @ 1.00 each. I used six .55 off 1 coupons, so they were all free!!
1 Cottonelle toilet paper @ .99. I used one .25 off 1 coupon plus had loaded a .50 off 1 coupon from Shortcuts.com, so after both discounts, it was free!!
1 Hershey chocolate bar @ .50 (needed a little filler!!)

I used one .50 catalina I got from getting the yeast at my last visit (Monday) and so with .05 tax, I paid .44 total!!! My receipt says I saved 98% not bad!!! Plus I still have those four other catalina's I earned today from the yeast, so 2.00 off my next order!!

Yesterday I ran into Meijer to snag a few deals and I found:

Coffeemate Creamers are .99. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 11/2 Redplum insert and when the coupon doubles they'll be free!! (this time it works, the coupon says ANY!!!)
Kellogg's Cereals are 1.88. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupons from the 11/9 Redplum insert to pay only .88 each!
Campbell's Chicken Noodle and Tomato Soups are .60 each. Use the .40 off 4 coupon from the 10/5 Smartsource insert to pay 1.60 for four cans (.40 each).
Quaker Chewy Granola Bars are 1.50 each. Use the 1.00 off 2 coupon from the 11/16 Smartsource insert to pay 2.00 for two boxes (1.00 each).
Meijer Crescent Rolls are 1.00 each. Use the .50 off 1 coupon at the Mealbox Site and pay only .50.

HI!!!

I'm really sorry if you've checked back here a few times (or alot!!) over the past week or so and have seen the same boring coffee creamer post!! I'm pretty bogged down right now, with, well....just life I guess!! My computer time lately has been spent working on gifts for the family and when I'm not doing that, we're doing our lessons (homeschool), shopping, cleaning and tomorrow we're adding in baking!!

I did shop Kroger and Meijer this week and didn't think there was really anything awesome. They both have fresh produce on sale. Kroger has Tyson boneless skinless chicken breast for 1.77 per pound. Overall, it just wasn't much, which was really fine for me because I haven't clipped my coupons in two weeks and I just can't do it right now!!

Now that it's a new month, most of the online coupon sites have changed coupons. You can just scroll down to see on the right side of the blog here a list of printable sites to check. Coupons.com even has some for Star Wars toys!!

I know the regular coupons haven't been too great the last few weeks, but we should be getting at least two inserts this week, so hopefully it'll make up for the shortage!!

KMart is doing super doubles again this week. Which means they will double any coupon up to 2.00, but will not go over the price of the item. You may want to call ahead to your store and be sure they're doing it before you leave!!

Meijer - Free International Delight Creamers!!

Sorry! It appears the coupon is for the 32oz bottle and the 16oz bottle is the one on sale for .99. I didn't realize this and I usually check the coupons, but for some reason, this one got past me. I'm really sorry!! I guess I was just so excited to have some yummy hot chocolate!! I did use 4 of them last night and they didn't beep. I don't know why they didn't, but they should've. Again, I'm sorry.
International Delight Creamers are free this week at Meijer after coupon!! Use the .55 off 1 coupon from the 10/12 Redplum insert and when it doubles it will be free!! Remember Meijer only doubles two identical coupons per order, so if you have more than two coupons, be sure to separate them into different orders so all of your coupons will double!!

I love to add this to hot chocolate to make it extra creamy!! Yummy!!

Thanksgiving dinner can be very expensive if you're not careful. I am hosting the dinner for my husband's family. All together there will be 5 adults and 4 children. I am also making 2 pies and bringing corn and green beans to another dinner at my parents house earlier in the day. When I host, I like to provide a nice amount of food. I know it's way more than any of us can eat, but I like to have everything there. Here's the menu I have planned:

Turkey

Gravy

Dressing (stuffing)

Mashed Potatoes

Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows

This is the compiled list of ingredients I need to accomplish this and their corresponding prices. All of these were done using sales, coupons and shopping at Aldi's. The orange colored items are things I had to specifically buy for this dinner. Everything else I had on hand from my stockpile.

Now the grand total for how much this dinner technically cost is 33.65. That may seem like a lot for one dinner, but it's Thanksgiving!! You could easily cut out a lot of this and halve the bill. Like I said, I like to serve a lot of food!! Most of the ingredients I already had on hand anyway, so it really only cost me 24.17 to complete the meal (and 7.73 of that was the turkey alone!!). And remember two of the pies and half of the veggies are going to another dinner so that's probably 4 dollars or so of the total. So if I subtracted 4.00 from 33.65 I'd have 29.65 for the big dinner which will feed 9 and that comes out to 3.29 per person, which is still cheaper than a Combo Meal at a fast food place!! And I'm sure we'll have tons and tons of leftovers!!!

Kroger & Meijer - Deals for the Week of 11/16

I shopped Meijer and Kroger and found some great deals that I thought I'd share. Here's what I found, first Meijer and then Kroger:

Del Monte canned vegetables are .50 each. Use the 1.00 off 4 coupon from the 11/16 Redplum insert to pay 1.00 for 4 cans (.25 each).

Del Monte 50% Less Salt canned vegetables are also .50 each. Use the .30 off 1 coupon from the 11/16 Redplum to get them free!!

Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers frozen vegetables are .89. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 11/16 Smartsource insert to get those free!!

Betty Crocker boxed potatoes are 1.00. Use the .35 off 1 coupon from the 11/16 Smartsource insert to pay .30 each.

McCormick Gravy Mixes are on sale. Some are .45 each and some are .89 each. Use the .25 off 2 coupon from the 11/2 Redplum insert to pay .40 for two (.20 each) or 1.28 for two (.64 each).

Keebler Pie Crusts are 1.33. Use the .25 off 1 coupon from the 11/9 Redplum insert to pay .83 each.

Pillsbury Refrigerated Sweet Rolls are 1.25. Use the .30 off 1 coupon from the 11/9 Smartsource insert to pay .65 each.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese is 1.25. Use the .50 off 2 coupon from the 11/2 Smartsource insert to pay .75 each. Plus there is a catalina deal on these (coupon that prints at the register to use on your next order). I bought 6 and got a 3.00 catalina. This also works at Kroger which is a better deal because if you buy 6 and use 3 coupons, at Meijer only two coupons will double but at Kroger all three will double and you'll still get the catalina. At Meijer after you consider the catalina, it's like paying .33 each at Kroger it's like paying .25 each.

Progresso Chicken Broth (in the carton) is 1.67. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 11/16 Smartsource insert to pay .67 each.

Knorr/Lipton Pasta and Rice Sides are 1.00. Use the .75 off 2 coupon from the 11/16 Redplum insert to pay 1.00 for two (.50 each).

Like I mentioned above Philadelphia Cream Cheese is 1.25. If you buy 6 and use three .50 off 2 coupons you'll pay 4.50 and get back a 3.00 catalina which makes them net only .25 each.

Tennessee Pride Sausage Gravy is 1.00. Use the .55 off 1 coupon from the 11/16 Redplum insert to get them free!!

Betty Crocker Frostings are 1.50. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 11/16 Smartsource insert to pay .50 each. Plus you can load a .55 off 1 coupon here to your Kroger Plus Card and get one free after paper coupon and e-coupon!!

Green Giant Boxed Vegetables are 1.00. Use the .50 off 2 coupon from the 11/16 Smartsource insert to pay 1.00 for 2 (.50 each). Plus you can load a .50 off 2 coupon here and pay .50 for two boxes (.25 each) after paper coupon and e-coupon.

Bird's Eye Steamfresh frozen vegetables are 1.00. Use the .35 off 1 coupon from the 10/12 Smartsource insert to pay .30 each.

Kroger has their turkey's on sale this week also. If you buy a Riverside, Honeysuckle or Butterball turkey you can get 7.00 off for a turkey that weighs between 10 and 16lbs or you can get 12.00 off for a turkey that weights more than 18lbs. I got two one for our Thanksgiving dinner and one just for another dinner down the road. I got an almost 13lb Riverside one for 7.73 and an around 11lb one for 5.78. Those come out to about .59 a pound.

Fresh celery is .69 each.

Kroger, Meijer, CVS & Thanksgiving - A Cornucopia of Info!!

These are paper mache frogs (well paper mache covered tissue boxes!!) that we made while reading Aesop's Fable, The Frogs Who Wished for a King!! Aren't they cute???

Just A Note:

Kroger is doing the Mega Event again this week, so if you still have coupons, head on over to there and get some more great deals. There were a few coupons in this past weeks paper that you can use, like Tylenol Rapid Release Gels and Hormel Pepperoni.

I made a quick look over Meijer's ad online and didn't see a whole lot. They have Bob Evan's Frozen Breakfasts on sale 1/2 price and with coupons that could be a good deal. Also certain Lysol cleaning products are 1/2 price, and again you could use coupons on that for a good deal.

I will be shopping on Friday this week, so after that I'll know a little more about what's out there. I should have my list ready sometime tomorrow, and I'll share that so you can see what I'm planning to purchase.

Other than that, you can stop over at CVS for Palmolive dish soap .24 after coupon and ECB, a free bottle of Smart Water (after ECB) and a Garnier Shampoo or Conditioner free after coupon and ECB.

Kroger - A Few More Deals for the Mega Event

I went back to Kroger tonight and found a few more deals for the Mega Event they are having. If you haven't seen all the great deals to be had there yet, click here for a big list!!

Oh, and I went to the Kroger Marketplace in Lebanon and they were surprisingly stocked up on almost everything in the sale. I got more Tylenol PM, Betty Crocker Potatoes, Carnation Evaporated Milk and a few others and found them all to be very stocked up. The only thing I couldn't find was the cereal. I wanted to get one box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch (my son's favorite!!) and they were out of that, but overall I was thrilled with the stock!! I was preparing myself on the drive there to just deal with them being out of most things, but I was pleasantly surprised!!

So anyway, you may have already read these on other blogs, but just in case here's what else I found:

Scotch-Brite Nail Saver Kitchen Sponges are free after the sale price, event and coupon (1.00 off 2 from the 10/26 Redplum insert).

Hunt's Large Can of Tomato Products (Crushed or Diced Tomatoes and Tomato Sauce) are priced at 1.50 and then will be 1.00 when you buy 10 items in the event. You can use the .40 off 2 coupon from the 9/21 Smartsource and load the 1.00 off 5 from Shortcuts.com. So if you buy 6 you'll pay 6.00 before coupons and if you three .40 off 2 and the 1.00 off 5 e-coupon you'll pay 2.60 for 6 very large cans (.43 each). Thanks to Heather for informing me of this one!!

Dove Ice Cream Bars are priced at 2.50 and then 2.00 after you buy 10 items. But the best part is, most of the boxes have coupons inside for 1.00 off another box of the bars and 2.00 off any container of Dove Ice Cream. You can use both of those coupons for the Mega Event and get some really cheap ice cream!!

I ended up going to two Krogers (only about 8 miles apart and since I only paid 1.86 for gas yesterday I could afford to visit two!!!) and did a total of 3 orders. They are doing a Mega Event where you get 5.00 off your order automatically when you buy 10 participating products. So basically you get an extra .50 off each item when you buy 10. You're allowed to do 3 sets per transaction which is 30 items. So I did a two orders with 30 items each and one order with 20 items for a total of 80 items. I also found a few other great deals as well. Go ahead and make your guess now as to how much all this cost me. I'll reveal the total at the end!!

Meijer - Deals for Week of 11/02

I stopped by Meijer this afternoon and found some pretty good deals! Here's what I found:

All Glade Air Care Products are 1/2 off. We got coupons today (11/02) in the newspaper for lots of different Glade products. I got the aerosol sprays for free after coupon and the carpet deodorizer free after coupon.

*Note, on Friday a Catalina deal will begin with Glade products (buy 3 get 2.00, buy 4 get 3.00 or buy 5 and get 4.00 off your next order). The picture shows the Scented Oil Plug In Warmers, Scented Oil Refills and the small glass candles. So you may want to save your coupons until Friday to take advantage of this deal. It runs until 11/30.

Purex Fabric Softener is 2.49. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 9/28 Smartsource insert to pay only 1.49.

Welch's 100% Grape Juice is 2.50. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 10/5 Smartsource insert to pay 1.50.

Barilla Pasta Plus is 1.50. Use the 1.00 off 2 coupon from the 9/14 Smartsource insert to pay 1.00 each.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese is 1.25. Use the .50 off 2 coupon from today's insert to get two for 1.50 (.75 each).

Trident Gum is .79. Use the .55 off 1 coupon from the 9/21 Smartsource insert to get them free!!

Red and Black Grapes are .88 per pound.

Gallon Milk is 2.29. This is cheaper than Kroger's price for next week.

Meijer - Our Shopping Trip - 10/31

Let me tell ya, on trick or treat night, the stores are empty!!! We stopped by Target and Meijer after we did one hour of the two hour trick or treat time and found both stores eerily quiet!! But alas, at Meijer we got a few more deals before the week was over. Here's what we got (I did one order and my husband did another):

*2 Steamfresh Frozen Vegetables. We used one 1.00 off 2 Meijer Frozen Food Insert Coupon and two .35 off 1 paper coupons.
*2 Taco Bell Salsas. We used two 1.50 off 1 Meijer Mealbox Coupons
*4 Jell-O Boxes (I forgot my coupons for these, but they're still worth it with the catalina deal)
*2 Fleischman's 3pk yeast packs. We used two .45 off 1 coupons.
*2 Velveeta Shells and Cheese. We used one 2.00 off 2 Meijer Mealbox Coupon.
*3 Johnson's Buddies Soaps. We used one 3.00 off 3 coupon.
*2 Aunt Millie's Whole Grain Muffins. We used two .50 off 1 coupons.
*2 Breyers Ice Creams. We used one 1.00 off 2 Meijer Frozen Food Insert Coupon and two .50 off 1 coupons. (these are not pictured as they are refreezing as I type!)
*2 jars of Cinnamon.

Plus we used a total of 5.50 in Catalinas from previous orders. My husband paid 1.03 for his order and I paid 2.63 for a total of only 3.66!! And if that wasn't good enough, we got back another 5.00 in Catalina's, a 3.00 off 3 Johnson's coupon and a 4.00 off 20.00 in general merchandise coupon (good for Christmas presents!!)

Just to recap, because I was pretty proud of this one!! We paid 3.66 and got back 5.00!! We came out ahead 1.34 and brought home all these products!! Now that's what I'm talking about!!

Fall Family Fun Day - An Update

This was taken during our nature walk in the field and trails behind our house. It was pretty muddy after a day of rain so we had on our old pants and shoes, but it was so beautiful and sunny out and we found lots of leaves to make rubbings and cards with. It was very nice and very frugal!!

Here's my pie. It turned out very delicious!! I used the recipe on the back of the can of pumpkin from Aldi's. It was

1 15oz can of pumpkin

2 eggs slightly beaten

1 cup of brown sugar (it says you can use white sugar if you want to)

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp nutmeg

2 tsps cinnamon

1 can evaporated milk (12oz)

1 9-in unbaked pie crust

You just mix all the ingredients and pour into the unbaked crust. Bake at 425 for 15 and then at 350 for 45 minutes. It really was delicious. We all enjoyed it!!

And here's the kids with their carved pumpkins. My son chose Mater from Cars and my daughter chose Pluto!!

Overall it was a very nice day. We did all of our "scheduled" activities and enjoyed some yummy food. I would definitely recommend a day like this when life is just crazy and you want to take time to be with the ones you love. It's so worth the $20 bucks!!

Kmart - Double Dollar Days Until Nov. 1st

My Aunt Tricia emailed me to tell me that the Kmart in Springboro was participating in the Double Dollar Coupons Event. They are doubling coupons up to and including 2.00!!!! Here's a few rules I saw today when I was there:

1. If your item is priced under 4.00, you will only get the value of the item off, no overage.

2. You can only use 4 like coupons in any order.

3. You can only use 75 coupons in any order.

4. It runs until November 1st

My total today was $99 before coupons and $26 after (and I got a 3.69 toy for my son!!). Here's some of the deals I got:

And I just have to say that in the past I have been pretty disappointed in the condition and stock of most Kmart's I've been into, but this one was pleasantly stocked and looked very nice. I'll definitely stop by there again!!

It's located right off I-75, I think it's exit 39 (rt 73). Other stores may be participating, so you can call and ask, but I know this one is!!

Target - Glade Scented Oil Warmers

Alright, I'm going to post the Target one first because it's quick!!

If you buy 4 Glade Scented Oil Warmers in holiday scents (mine was apple) @ 2.50 each and 1 In Style Magazine @ 3.59, you can get a $5 Target gift card to use on your next purchase. I had 2.00 off 1 coupons for the warmers that I found in blinkie machines at Kroger and Kmart this past week or so, if you haven't gotten those yet, you should definitely check when you're at the store this week!! So I paid 5.59 and got back a 5.00 gift card.

You can also buy the Plug-In Refills @ 2.50 and use the buy one get one free coupon from the 9/28 Smartsource insert to pay 5.00 for 4 and 3.59 for the magazine for a total of 8.59 and then get back a 5.00 gift card.

Three tips:

1. Inside the warmer packages are more 2.00 off 1 coupons. So you could do this deal again if you wanted to using those coupons.

2. The cashier rang up the 4 warmers and before she rang up the magazine, it prompted her to ring up the gift card. So eventhough the sign said I had to buy all 5 products to get it, it appears that you need only to buy the 4 warmers!!! I went ahead and bought the magazine today. It's up to you to try, I can only let you know what happened today when I went through!!

3. If you do buy the In Style Magazine, there is a 1.00 off 1 Glade air product Target coupon in there that you could use on another order if you choose to do another order. Because it's a Target coupon you can combine it with a manufacturer coupon.

Ok, so next is seven facts about me:

1. I went to Spain with a group from my high school. It was lots of fun!!! We visited Madrid, Seville, Toledo, the Mediterranean Coast, the Alhambra, the Royal Palace and even took a one day excursion to Morocco where I ate camel-kabobs (didn't know it at the time, I thought it was beef!).

2. I've lived all of my almost 30 years in Ohio, except for 3 and 1/2 years which were spent in the foreign land of Texas!!

3. My family and I travel to Walt Disney World at least once a year (10 times since November 2002) and have also visited Disneyland twice in that time!!

4. I worked for seven years at McDonald's!! I started when I was 14, took a year off around 18, and then came back and worked until I was 21!!

5. My favorite foods are Olive Garden's Chicken Alfredo and Outback Steakhouse's Victoria's Filet with a Baked Sweet Potato. When I'm being cheap I love me some Hamburger Helper (my family hates it though!!) or Campbell's Potato Soup!!

6. I love the fall!! I decorated the main living areas in my home to the colors of fall. We have golden yellow walls, red stained hardwood floors, copper colored cabinets in our kitchen, sage green sofas and rugs and curtains with all the colors combined. I love the warmth those colors generate. I also love anything to do with pumpkins!!

7. I love to scrapbook. I haven't done it much lately because I've kind of replaced the time I used for it with my couponing, but I'm hoping to get some going soon. I was a Creative Memories consultant for a few years and mainly did it to get discounts on my own products!! I love their products. Hopefully I'll get caught up in my lifetime!!

Meijer & Kroger - Deals for the Week of 10/26

Tonight I did some shopping. I made a stop at Kroger and Meijer. Here's some deals I found:

Meijer:

If you buy 3 Jell-O's which are on sale for .50 each, you can use the 1.50 off 2 coupon from Meijer Mealbox (they may or may not adjust the coupon down to 1.00 because that's what the actual price for two is) so you'll pay either .50 of 0 and then you'll get a 2.00 catalina (coupon that prints at the register for use on your next order). So you'll be ahead either 1.50 or 2.00!!

Fleischman's 3-pk yeasts are on sale for .95. Use the .45 off 1 coupon from the 10/5 Smartsource insert to pay only .05 each. And then you'll get a catalina for .50 off your next order, so you'll be ahead .45!!!

Birds Eye Steam Fresh Frozen Vegetables are 1.33 each. Use the 1.00 off 2 Meijer coupon in the Frozen Food Insert found at the front of the store plus use two .35 off 1 coupons from the 10/12 Smartsource insert to pay .26 for two (.13 each)!!

Breyer's Ice Cream is 2.50. Use the 1.00 off 2 Meijer coupon in the frozen food insert and use two .50 off 1 coupons from the 10/26 Redplum insert to pay 2.00 for two (1.00 each!).

So if you bought 3 Jell-O's, 1 yeast strip, 2 veggies and 2 ice creams, you'll pay 2.31 (or 2.81 if they only take off 1.00 for the Jell-O's) and get back 2.50 in Catalina's!!!

Kroger:

Tyson Frozen Chicken Nuggets are 2.50. Use the .55 off 1 coupons from several different inserts and pay only 1.50.

Quaker Instant Oatmeal is 2.49. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 9/7 Redplum to pay only 1.49 each.

Purex Laundry Detergent is 1.99. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 8/10 Smartsource inserts to pay only .99!!

Halls Cough Drops are 1.00. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 10/26 Smartsource to get them free!!!

Sunmaid 6pk raisins are 1.50. Use the 1.00 off 2 coupon from the 10/5 Redplum insert to pay 2.00 for two (1.00 each).

Purell 2oz Hand Sanitizers are 1.00. Use the .60 off 1 coupon from the 7/27 Smartsource insert to get them free!!

Betty Crocker Frosting is 1.50. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 10/19 Smartsource insert to pay .50. Plus you can load a .55 off 1 coupon at Shortcuts.com to get one for free plus .05 overage!

Celestial Seasonings Tea is still 1.00. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 10/5 Smartsource insert to get those free!!

Here's our plan for this Saturday:

*note, if you haven't seen it, I posted a few more Meijer deals for this week below this post. I just don't want you to miss them!!

Breakfast: Pumpkin Spice Pancakes & Sausage Patties

As a snack on our nature walk, I'll make my own Harvest Trail Mix which consists of:

Lunch: Parmesan & Pea Noodles

After lunch we're going to watch a movie in our home theater. (Yes we have a home theater in our basement, but it was definitely done on a dime. The projector and screen together = the cost of a big t.v. and we bought recliners from Big Lots to use as seats. This was the big thing my husband wanted when we built our house and he got it!! I like to think that it actually saves us money now because we wait for movies to come out on DVD and watch them at home instead of going out to see them!!)

We're going to try Redbox for our movie rental this time. If you sign up here you can get a code for a free one night rental. Plus there are tons of codes out at different times for a free one night rental. It's a great way to watch movies cheap!!

Movie Snack:

-microwave popcorn .15 (1 bag from the .59 boxes or Orville Redenbacher at Meijer a week or two ago)

And after dinner we'll carve our two pumpkins we got from Aldi's for 1.99 each. We already have tools and patterns from previous years, so we're only out the cost of the pumpkins which is 3.98.

And we'll end the day with bubble baths and a bedtime story (We're reading the Wind in the Willows at bedtime right now) which is free!!

So my total for the whole days worth of meals, snacks and activities is 17.70. We'll use the 2.30 left for drinks for the day (Orange Juice, Milk, 100% Juice and Water) for a total of 20.00!! I think that's a great way to spend 20 bucks and have an awesome family day complete with delicious meals and a desert!!

So, it's your choice, a trip through the Drive-Thru or a day full of fun and memories with your family!!

Meijer - A Few More Deals for This Week 10/19 - 10/25

I went back to Meijer this morning, hoping to get some more Smucker's Uncrustables for free, but they were still out, so I got a raincheck. I'm checking again on Saturday and if they're still out, getting another raincheck, so hopefully I can get a few more of those. Anyway, as I walked around for a few minutes, I found a few more deals to note.

Snyders of Hanover Tortilla Chips are buy one get one free. They are priced at 2.89. Plus most of the bags I saw had a coupon stuck to them for a free Soda (up to 1.00) when you buy 2. So I got two bags of chips and one 2-liter of soda for 2.89 total.

Goodlife Recipe 4lb Dog Food is priced at 4.19. I used 2.00 off 1 coupons from the 8/24 Redplum insert and paid only 2.19 each.

Carnation Evaporated Milk is .99. I used .50 off 2 coupons from the 9/14 Redplum insert and paid .49 each. These will come in handy with my .79 cans of pumpkin from Aldi's for some yummy (and cheap!!) pies!!

I did the Buddies Soap deal which has been around for awhile, but I finally did it!! I got 3 Buddies soaps @ 1.09 each. I used the 3.00 off 3 coupon from the 9/14 Smartsource insert and paid .27 total and then got a Catalina (coupon that prints at the register) for 3.00 off 3 more Johnson products. So I can use that to do the deal again!

Gum Kids Toothbrushes 2 pack (themed on Crayola and really cute!!) are priced at 1.43 and 1.57. I used the .75 off any 1 Gum toothbrush from the 8/3 Redplum insert and paid .43 or .57 each. I usually get great deals on adult toothbrushes at CVS or Walgreens, but rarely for kids toothbrushes, so I got a few packs of these.

I also saw that Oral-B adult toothbrushes are 1.47 and if you use the .75 off 1 coupon from a recent P&G insert to pay only .47 for those. I didn't get those because I have tons of adult toothbrushes right now that I've gotten free, so I left my 2 coupons there for someone else to use!!

Ok, I went shopping today! I hit Kroger, CVS, Walgreens and Meijer. Here's what I was able to round up. I wanted to stay under my $45 cash allowance and I made it!!!

Kroger:

I got 8 Nesquick Milks. Sale Price 1.00. I used .50 off 1 coupons. Paid 0

5 Celestial Seasonings Teas. Sale Price 1.00. Used 1.00 off 1 coupons. Paid 0

4 Brut Deodorants. Sale Price 1.00. Used .50 off 1 coupons. Paid 0

1 Febreze Noticeable Starter Kit. Sale Price 6.89. Used 5.00 off 1 paper coupon and 5.00 off 1 loadable coupon. Paid 0, got 3.11 in overage.

2 Tennessee Pride Sausage Rolls. Sale Price 2.00. Used .50 off 1 coupons. Paid 1.00 each.

2 Green Giant Frozen Vegetables. Sale Price 1.00. Used .50 off 2 paper coupon and .50 off 2 loadable coupon. Paid .25 each.

8 Cans of Campbell's Kids Soups. Sale Price 1.00. Used .40 off 2 coupons. Paid .60 each.

1 2lb Velveeta. Paid 4.48. (I need it for a recipe I want to try!)

CVS:

I got 3 2-packs of Gum Toothbrushes. Priced at 3.99 each. I used .75 off 1 coupons. Paid 3.24 each and got back 3.99 in ECB's for each one (11.97 total).

1 Powerade. Priced at 1.69. Got 1.69 in ECB's back.

2 Brach's Candy Corns. Priced at 1.29. Got back 1.29 in ECB's each (2.58 total).

1 Just for Men Hair Color Kit. Priced at 7.99. Got 7.99 in ECB's back.

2 Excedrin Express Gels 20ct. Priced at 1.99 each. I used two 2.00 off 1 printables and one 3.00 off 1 CRT (CVS coupon at bottom of receipt).

1 3pk of CVS paper towels. Priced at 1.99. I used 1.00 off 1 CRT.

So I ended up spending around 19.00 (18 in ECB's and 1 in cash) and got back 24.23 in ECB's.

Walgreens:

For some reason (ok I really know, it's because it's WALGREENS, when will I ever learn that Walgreens is just too difficult for me!!), not all of my deals worked. I didn't realize it until later and I'm just too tired to worry about it at this point. Oh well. Here's what I got:

4 bags of Mars Candy. Sale priced at 4 for 10. I used two 1.00 off 2 coupons. Paid 8.00 and will submit for 4.00 rebate.

3 Maalox Tablets. Priced at 4.99. I used 2.00 off 1 coupons. Paid 8.97 and got back 8.00 in Register Rewards.

3 bottles of Tylenol Cold. Priced at 4.99. I used 1.00 off 1 manufacturer coupons and 1.50 off 1 coupon from Easy Saver Booklet. Paid 7.50 and got back 5.00 in Register Rewards.

1 Alka Seltzer plus Cold. Priced at 4.99. I used 1.00 off 1 coupon from some booklet I got a while back. Paid 3.99. Was supposed to get back 4.99 in Register Rewards, but didn't!

2 Visine Drops. Priced at 2 for 8.00. Used 3.00 off 1 coupons from All You Magazine. Paid 2.00. Got back 2.00 in Register Rewards.

2 St. Ives Elements Face Cleansers. Priced at 4.99 each. Used buy one get one free coupon. Paid 4.99. Was supposed to get 5.00 in Register Rewards, but didn't!! ($10 total that I missed out on!!)

I used a 5.00 Register Reward from a previous transaction and still ended up with some great deals, so that's why I'm not too worried about it. It's just frustrating that nearly everytime I go to Walgreens, I end up with problems. I guess it's the price I have to pay for the cheap products!! Anyway, I ended up paying 8.00 in cash after coupons, my 5.00 register reward and the balance of my gift card from last month.

Meijer:

6 Boxes of Aunt Millies Muffins. Priced at 2.00 (they raised the price from 1.50 boo-hoo!!). Used .50 off 1 coupons. Paid 1.00 each.

3 bags of Hershey candy. Priced at 1.88 each. I used 1.00 off 3 coupon. Paid 1.55 each.

2 bags of Nestle candy. Priced at 1.88 each. I used 1.00 off 1 printable coupons. Paid .88 each.

3 cans of Manwich. Priced at .99 each. Plus I got a free package of Aunt Millie Hamburger Buns for buying 3 cans.

4 Lipton/Knorr Pasta Sides. Priced at 1.00 each. I used .75 off 2 coupons. Paid .50 each.

2 Domino Brown Sugars and 2 Domino Powdered Sugars. Priced at 1.50 each. I used .50 off 1 coupons. Paid .50 each.!!

2 Domino 5lb bags of Sugar. Priced at 2.50. I used .50 off 1 coupons. Paid 1.50 each.

4 Gallons of Milk (not pictured). Paid 2.50 each.

2 1/2 Gallons of Trauth Ice Cream (not pictured). Priced at 2.74 each. I used 1.00 off 1 coupons. Paid 1.74 each.

1 Loaf of Aunt Millie Bread. Paid 1.19.
2 Smuckers Uncrustables. Priced at 1.49 each. I used 1.00 off 2 coupon found in Meijer insert at the store and two .55 off 1 coupons. Paid 0!!

I used my four 4.00 off your next order coupons from the Glade Deal and paid 21.50 total. I had to break it up into 4 orders to make sure I could double all my coupons and use the 4 Catalinas. I stopped to get me and the kids 1.00 double cheeseburgers from McDonalds (we had free Nesquick to drink!!) and we also got one sheet of the Trick or Treat Coupons. After that lunch and all our shopping, I still have one dollar left!! I'm pretty proud of that!!!

I also wanted to note that Endust is half price at Meijer, making it 1.79. Use the 2.00 off 1 coupon to get it free!! My store was out of them!!

Meijer - Glade Scented Oil Warmers

Have you done the Glade deal at Meijer??? If not, then why not??? Maybe you're just like me and a bit slow!! Well after I saw it mentioned here and elsewhere a few times, I finally decided to figure out what I needed to do to get it and it's such a great deal, I'm so glad I finally got my act together!!

So you go to Meijer and buy 2 Glade Scented Oil Warmers priced at 4.69. Use the buy one get one free coupon from the 9/28 Smartsource insert and you'll pay 4.69 for two. Then at the register you'll get two catalina's (coupon that prints at the register, good for your next order) for 4.00 each (a total of 8.00)!!! Wow!

Now, the next time you visit Meijer you can use them to buy milk, produce or meat (or whatever else you choose of course!!). It's a great way to get things inexpensively that don't usually have coupons.

I only had 2 of the coupons because they came in an insert while I was on vacation. Thanks to my Mom for giving me the two I have!! But I now have 16.00 in coupons to use just using the two that I had!!

So get out and get some Glade Warmers!!!

An Explanation and a Few Kroger & Meijer Deals

Ok here goes:

Unfortunately, I won't be doing as many posts as I used to do. I just simply can't keep up with all the deals and all the other responsibilities I have at home. If I go a day or two without posting something, I feel really bad and I just can't keep feeling that way. I know it's my own fault for these feelings, but alas, I can't seem to help it.

After our vacation, I knew I was going to have to either cut back or let it go altogether and my decision at this point is to make a huge cut back. I get excited when I find those great deals (think freebies or nearly free) and truly want to share those with all of you and so that's what I intend to keep doing. It will most likely just be Kroger and Meijer deals that I post, because CVS and Walgreens deals are plentiful on the web.

Perhaps I'm really slow at it, but the big Kroger, Meijer and CVS posts that I usually do take at least an hour to do each. And while 3 hours a week may not seem like a lot, for some reason, it is just really hard for me to accomplish. So if you're about to head out to the store and want to make sure you don't miss a huge deal, then check here before going out and hopefully I'll have what you need. Otherwise, hotcouponworld is a great place to find all the everyday regular deals.

I hope you understand. After lots of prayer and consideration, it has just become clear to me that I can't do all that I've "signed up" to do at this point and some things need to be cut back so that the really important things can have my most and best attention. Thanks to all of you, I truly appreciate each and every reader out there!!

So anyway, here's some awesome deals I found this morning at Kroger and Meijer:

Meijer:
Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers Frozen Vegetables are on sale for 1.00. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 10/5 General Mills insert (they were also in another insert, but I can't find the date of it right now) to get them free!!!

Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage and Links are on sale for 1.39. Use the 1.00 off 2 smoked sausage to get two packs for 1.78 (.89 each) or use the .55 off 1 links coupon to get them for .39 each (after coupon doubles)!!! Both coupons are from the 10/5 Redplum insert. That is just an awesome price for those, I stocked up today and Meijer still had tons of them for all of you!!

Orville Redenbacher popcorn is half price making it 1.59. Use the 1.00 off 1 Naturals variety from the 9/21 Smartsource to get that for .59 or use the .40 off 1 coupon from the 10/12 insert to get the regular varieties for .79 each.

Kroger:
Muir Glen Tomato Pastes are on sale for .75. Use the .75 off 1 coupon from the 9/28 Smartsource insert to get it free!!!

Tennessee Pride Rolled Sausage is 2.00. Use the .55 off 1 coupon from the 9/7 Redplum insert to get them for 1.00 each!!

I found clearanced Cascadian Farms frozen vegetables in a bin by the meat department priced at .99. I used the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 8/24 Smartsource insert to get them free!!! There were lots of them left. They also had other brands of organic frozens on clearance as well. This was at the Maineville Kroger on 48.

Suave Shampoos and Conditioners are .88. Use the buy 2 products and get 1.00 off coupon from the 9/21 Redplum insert to pay .76 for two (.38 each).

Hunt's Tomato Products are .75. Use three .40 off 2 coupons from the 9/21 Smartsource insert, and load the 1.00 off 5 coupon from Shortcuts.com to pay 1.10 for six products (.18 each).

Progresso Soups are priced @ 1.25 each. Use the .50 off 2 coupon from the 9/7 or 10/5 General Mills inserts, plus load the .50 off 2 coupon at Shortcuts.com to pay 1.00 for two cans (.50 each).

Pantene Hair Products are priced @ 3.33 each. Load the buy one shampoo get one styler free coupon at the P&G loading site plus use two 1.00 off 1 coupons from the 9/28 P&G insert to pay a total of 1.33 for two products (.67 each).

Meijer - Free Dixie Napkins

I stopped into Meijer today to pick up my canned veggies and fresh apples and decided to make some Math problems for my kids to do while at the store. That meant that we had to go down all the aisles, so they could find what they were looking for to complete their problems and while down the paper goods aisle, I found Dixie 50ct Napkins on sale for 1.00. And if you use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 8/17 Redplum insert they'll be free after the coupon doubles!!

Meijer - Deals for Week of 10/5

Meijer is having a huge Meijer brand sale this week, and other than that, I really don't see much else to post about. There's a few good deals within the Meijer brand that I'll probably pick up including:

Canned Vegetables @ 3 for $1
Milk @ 2.50 a gallon
1/4 peck of Apples for 2.49 (appx. 3 1/2 - 3 3/4 lbs) which comes out to close to .75 a lb.

Also the Knorr Sides are 1.00. Use the .75 off 2 coupon from today's (10/5) insert to get two packs for 1.00 (.50 each).

Those are really the best deals I see for Meijer this week. Not a lot, but a good opportunity to stock up on veggies!! And maybe even make some great apple recipes!! With the prices going up as they are, I'm thankful for every deal I'm offered!!

Kroger - Martha White Muffin & Cornbread Mixes

Martha White Muffin Mixes are on sale at Kroger this week for 1.00. Use the .55 off 2 coupon from the 8/24 Redplum insert to get two mixes for 1.00 (.50 each). I also saw that the Cornbread Mixes are regularly priced at .79. Using the same coupon you can get two mixes for .58 (.29 each)!!

I love making these up the night before for a quick breakfast or yummy snack for the day!

Walgreens - $5 off $20 Coupon

I just got an email with a new Walgreens coupon in it. This time it's $5 off $20 (and it states on the coupon that the total has to be $20 after all other coupons). Click here to get your coupon. This coupon is good Friday and Saturday (October 3rd and 4th).

Kroger - A Few Deals for This Week - 9/29

Tonight I also made it out to Kroger and found a few deals to note:

Select Hunt's Tomato Products are .75 each. (What's with the Hunt's deals this week at both Kroger and Meijer!!). Use the .40 off 2 coupon from the 9/21 Smartsource insert to get two products for .70 total (.35 each). Plus there is a loadable coupon at Shortcuts.com for 1.00 off 5 Hunt's products.

So buy 6 products @ .75 each = 4.50
Use three .40 off 2 coupons (each doubled to .80) = -2.40
Get 1.00 off from the loadable coupon = -1.00
Pay only 1.10 for 6 cans which is .18 each!

Small Suave Deodorants are regularly priced at 1.19. Use the .50 off 1 coupon from the 9/21 Redplum insert to pay only .19 each.

Certain frozen Cascadian Farm Organic Vegetables are 2.00 (edamame, peas and squash). Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon from the 8/24 Smartsource insert to pay only 1.00.

Meijer - A Few Deals For This Week - 9/28

I finally made it out to Meijer today and saw a few deals I thought I'd share! You may already know about them, since it is Thursday already, but here goes anyway!!

Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta is on sale for .99. Use the 1.00 off 1 coupon (it will automatically adjust down to .99) from the 8/24 Smartsource insert to get it free!!

Hunt's Canned Tomato Products are all on sale. There is a .40 off 2 coupon you can use from the 9/21 Smartsource to make this a great deal. I got cans of tomato sauce (the bigger cans) for .32 each after coupon and cans of diced tomatoes for .42 each after coupon. Note: the small cans of tomato sauce and paste won't work with the coupon because they have to be 11oz.

Mott's Apple Juice is 1.89. Use the 1.00 off 2 coupon from the 8/10 Smartsource insert to get two for 2.78 (1.39 each).

Aunt Millie's Whole Grain Muffins are still priced at 1.50 and I used the .50 off 1 coupon from the 8/10 Redplum insert to pay only .50 each. Someone commented previously that they didn't like the way the muffins were, but I loved them. We took two boxes with us on our trip and the kids and I all loved them. I found them to be very soft and moist and just delicious, so I bought two more boxes today!!

Alot of Meijer Organics products are on sale this week. We're trying to incorporate more organic products into our diet, so this was a great chance to get some different things to try out and see how we like them!

We're Home!!

We made it in, at dinner time this evening and I just finished emptying the email box and starting some laundry!! I don't have time to write about deals tonight (mainly because I haven't had a chance to find any!!), but I did have two tips to tell you about!

I just started ordering from this great website called The Coupon Clippers. I usually buy 6 to 10 newspapers a week, costing me 6 to 10 dollars and ending up with tons of coupons I never use and not as many of the ones I really want. Well I decided that I'd try only buying 1 or 2 newspapers (plus my parents save me an insert or two) so that I can have at least a few of all of the coupons and then order the ones I really wanted from the site. So far I have really enjoyed this service. I'm spending around the same 10 dollars every week and the coupons come clipped!! Maybe you'd like it too!!

On the Road

I know I've apologized a ton this week, but I really am sorry for the lack of posting. I was only without power for 23 hours, so that's not my biggest excuse. I always plan a ton for my children's Birthday parties, so that took a lot of my time and then my parents are still without power right now and I've been helping them with laundry and a little bit of ice relief.

I am also currently sitting in a hotel only 5 miles from the Florida border on my way to Walt Disney World! That has taken tons of time to prepare for since I saved most of the prep work for after my daughter's party. But alas, I should be able to post some deals this week when I get a chance, so thanks again for being patient and come October, things should be back to normal!!

Sunday September 14th, A Whirlwind Day!!

Yay, I have power again!!!

Boy what a whirlwind (pun intended!!) weekend that was!! We had scheduled our daughter's 6th Birthday party for Sunday evening and wow, did that turn out to be exciting!! About half our guests made it to the party although the lights were out and we couldn't cook food in the kitchen. We were able to grill up some burgers and hotdogs and luckily I had put in a big Stouffer's Mac N Cheese in the oven when the lights started flickering and by the time we needed it (about 3 hours later) the oven had been hot enough to keep it nice and toasty in there! So we had burgers, hotdogs, mac n cheese and potato chips! Plus the cupcakes I made!! It turned out to be a very nice and very memorable party!!

But now I'm very behind in my posts! I still need to do CVS, Meijer and Kroger, which I will try to get done today. Now that the power is on, there's other things I need to get done as well like laundry because I need to pack for vacation! We're leaving for Walt Disney World on Friday and won't be back until Wednesday October 1st! So the next few weeks, the posts on here will probably be sparse due to my getting ready for vacation and during the actual vacation. I will have the laptop with me, so hopefully I can get up the stores deals for the weeks I'm gone!!

So anyway, check back here today for the 3 stores deals post (that's if you have power and can find a store to shop at!!). Meijer - Aunt Millie's Muffins

Today I ran into Meijer because I had heard that Thursday mornings are great for them having lots of stock (that was right, they had pretty much everything in stock!) and I found that they had price dropped Aunt Millie's Whole Grain Muffins to 1.50. If you use the .50 off 1 coupon from a recent insert, they'll only be .50 a box! I got two boxes to save for our vacation that begins at the end of next week! A great cheap breakfast!!

At our store (Fields Ertel) I found these muffins on a little display attached to the end of one of the frozen food freezers. I'm not sure if they're over with the other muffins and donuts and things or not, but probably so!

With all the great tips on the Bigg's Cereal & Milk deal, I thought I'd just share one scenario I came up with which might make for a great deal.

Buy 10 boxes of Regular Cheerios = 20.00

Buy 3 boxes of either Multigrain Cheerios or Cocoa Puffs = 6.00

Buy 3 Gallons of Milk

You'll get 5.00 off automatically for buying $25 worth of GM products

You'll get the 3 milks free automatically.

Use 2 of each of these 5 coupons (10 total) found here, here, here, here, & here (you should be able to print them twice each) for the Cheerios.

Use 3 of the .75 off 1 coupons found here or here for the Multigrain Cheerios or Cocoa Puffs.

You're total will then be 8.75 for 13 boxes of cereal and 3 gallons of milk!!

Plus you'll have 3 milk points (you get 9 and you get a free gallon of milk).

Kroger & Target - Campbell's, Old el Paso & Kashi

Well thanks to MoneySavingMom and Anonymous FGD, I was able to get these two great deals at Kroger and Target. First Kroger. I got 10 boxes of Old el Paso Taco Shells, 5 packs of Old el Paso Taco Seasoning and 16 cans of Campbell's Chicken Noodle/Tomato Soups. All of these products qualified for the special at Kroger where you buy 15 products and get $3 off automatically.

So I got $6 off for that deal
Then I used 5 peelie coupons off the boxes of shells for a free seasoning mix when you buy 2 other Old el Paso products
I also used five .55 off 2 Old el Paso products (for the shells)
I also used four .40 off 4 coupons for the soup.

My total before coupons and deals was 22.94
My coupon savings was 11.54
I saved 6.00 with the Kroger deal
I ended up paying 5.40 for all of that!

At Target, I got 4 Kashi products, 2 @ 2.69 each and 2 @ 2.75 each. I used four 2.00 off 1 coupons found here. I also got 1 Quaker Instant Oatmeal @ 2.50 and used a .50 off 1 coupon from the 9/7 inserts. My total then was 4.88. I used a 5.00 Gift Card from the Pop-Tart deals last week and then I got another 5.00 Gift Card back for buying 4 Kashi products!! So all of that and I didn't pay a penny and walked out with another Gift Card!

I found a pretty good deal at Bigg's this week (9/8):

The best deal I see is for the Campbell's Chicken Noodle and Tomato Soups. If you buy 16 of them @ .60 each = 9.60. You'll get 3.00 off automatically = 6.60. Use four .40 off 4 coupons (double to .80) for a coupon savings of 3.20 and that leaves your total at 3.40 which comes out to .21 each can.

Also, the Campbell's Select Healthy Harvest Soups are a good deal too. Buy 16 @ 1.25 each = 20. Get 3.00 off automatically = 17.00. Use eight .50 off 2 coupons (doubles to 1.00) for a total savings of 8.00 and that leaves your total at 9.00 which comes out to .56 each can.

I looked all over the ad and can not find where it says how many times you can do this deal in each transaction. Usually they limit it to 3 deals per transaction, but I don't know for sure for this deal. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I bought 2 boxes of Kellogg's cereal that is sale priced at 1.88. I used the 1.00 off 2 coupon to make it 2.76 (1.38 each) and then I got a coupon for 1.00 off my next order for buying those two!!

Lauren commented that you can get a coupon for 1.00 off your next order when you buy 3 Green Giant Boxed Vegetables, but I bought 4 tonight and did not get the coupon. Maybe it's a regional thing or something, I'm not sure.

The Trauth Ice Cream is sale priced at 2.74 and after the 1.00 off 1 coupon is 1.74.

So for only $4.37, you can make 3-ways at home for your family! (Includes 1 box of spaghetti, 1 can of chili and 1 bag of cheese). That's much cheaper than visiting the restaurant!

Target - Pop Tarts & Cheetos

Today I went to Target and got a couple of great grocery deals.

I got 4 large boxes of Pop-Tarts for $9. I used two 1.00 off 2 coupons from the 8/3 Kellogg insert and I used four .50 off 1 coupons from here (these are Target Store coupons and can be combined with manufacturer coupons). So I paid $5, but to make it even better, I got a free $5 giftcard for purchasing the 4 products! I would've liked to do it again and use the 1st giftcard to make my out of pocket 0, but they only had 3 boxes left! I'll try another Target later in the week!

I also found that Cheeto's are price dropped to 2.00. I used the 1.00 off 1 coupon here and paid only 1.00 a bag! I was pretty excited about those finds!

I recall you got some sweet deals with them a while back.) Anyways, there is also a display sign up front that if you buy $10 worth of Nabsico cookies or crackers you get $10 off 3 packages of Fruit of the Loom basics. So I bought 12 packs of Kool Aid, 4 boxes of Wheat Thins (2.50 each) and three packs of FOL socks ($4.59 each) and got the wheat thins free and $10 off the socks. It was a great deal! My Shopping Trip - 8/22 (Kroger, Meijer & CVS)

Today I needed to do a pretty "big" shopping trip, because we've run a bit low on a few different items. I stopped at Meijer, Kroger and CVS (my usuals!!). Here's what I got:

Kroger:

8 Bottles of Juicy Juice = $20. I used eight $1 off 1 coupons, plus I got $5 off for the Nestle deal. So I paid 7.00 total for 8 bottles which is .88 a piece (a price I'm very happy with).
2 Bags of Frozen Tyson Chicken Breasts on sale buy one get one free. So I paid 9.99 for two bags which comes out to $2 a pound.
1 5lb bag of potatoes = 1.98.
1 loaf of Sara Lee Bread. I used the get one free coupon, so I paid 0.
1 Annie's Organic Macaroni and Cheese = 1.50.
1 Kroger Oyster Crackers = 1.00

Product Total = 47.22
Kroger Deals (Nestle and Tyson)= -14.99
Coupon Total = -10.79
I paid 21.44

CVS:

1 bottle of Benefiber = 12.99
I used the $2 off $10 coupon, a $3 off coupon from the receipt and a $2 manufacturer coupon. I used a $4 ECB and put 2.12 on a gift card I got from filling a prescription.

Meijer:

6 Pert Shampoos = 2.99 each (I used my last raincheck to get these at that price). I used six $3 off coupons, so I paid 0.
8 packages of Knorr Rice/Pasta Sides = 8.00. I used four .75 off 2 coupons (2 doubled, 2 didn't) so I paid a total of 4.50
2 packages of Dole fruit cups = 3.50. I used two .75 off 1 coupons and paid a total of 1.50 for two.
2 jars of Dole fruit = 3.50. I used one 1.00 off 2 coupon and paid 2.50 total.
4 Campbell's Kids Soups = 4.33. I used two .40 off 2 coupons (from a magazine I have) and paid a total of 2.73 for 4.

Coupons - My Organization Process

It has been suggested that I share how I organize my coupons so here's the system I find works best for me. (Please excuse the condition of my envelopes, they need a refreshing!!)

First, I clip ALL coupons (except a very few that even if free I wouldn't want to purchase, like certain medicines/vitamins, personal products or cat food). I clip them all because I have found so many unadvertised deals or clearances while shopping in a store that need a coupon to make it an exceptional deal. I personally, just like having them there and ready to go for that purpose.

Second, my usual schedule is to clip all the coupons on Sunday afternoon. Our family usually just has quiet time at home after church on Sunday's, so this works for our schedule. I buy 6 - 10 newspapers a week (plus my parents give me an extra set or two) and spend about 90 minutes clipping the coupons. I stack all of the like pages and clip them once. I also spend 30 - 45 minutes once a month going through the envelopes to find expired coupons. I use to do this every week, but realized that at least 75% off coupons expire at the end of the month, so it's just easier to do it once a month. So for a month's (4 weeks) worth of time, I spend about 6 1/2 hours total, yet save hundreds of dollars. My time is definitely worth the savings I get by doing it.

Third, the system! I found inspiration from this post by Money Saving Mom. I started with a box just like hers and some white envelopes and index cards. Basically you tuck the flap of the envelope into it, then stand the index card up inside it, push it over to one edge and staple it in place. Then you label each envelope with categories that make sense for you and your family. I use for instance: beverages, deli meat & cheese, frozen breakfast, fresh baked, hair care, laundry, pet care, toothcare, etc.. I also have 3 envelopes at the front of the box for the 3 stores I visit the most: CVS, Meijer and Kroger. I put the store specific coupons and CVS ECB's in there so they're easy to find.

I don't find it too time consuming to just pull out the envelope and search through it for the coupons I need. But you may be asking yourself why my coupon box looks like it ate the coupon box from Money Saving Mom's post. Well, after a month or so, I outgrew the first box and now have one twice as big. Yes, it's big and a bit heavy, but it still fits in the seat of the cart or in the basket if I need to use the seat for a kid. I usually park next to a cart corral if I can so that I can just grab the cart first, and then transfer the coupons to it right away and I don't have to carry it very far!!

Now, if you're wondering if this is really worth it. With all the clipping, organizing, labeling and lugging. Is it really worth it? I guess it just depends on whether saving hundreds of dollars a month is worth it to you. For me it is. I feel like it's a small price to pay for the savings I incur.
