Kroger & Meijer - Deals from All-Star Commentors!

I've gotten lots of great tips from some all-star commentors and I thought I'd just copy and paste them in a post so they won't be missed! Here they are:

From Crys:
Hey Jamie, did you see the soda deal at Kroger?? Their deal is buy 4 12 pack of coke products get one free plus in last sunday's paper, there was a coupon (not in an insert, actually on the paper) for a free 12 pack of Nestea bottles when you buy 4 12 packs of coke products!

So, I got 5 12 packs of coke products and one free 12 pack of Nestea bottles for 11 bucks!!!! Woo Hoo!

From Jenny:
Hey Jamie! At my Meijer in Dayton this week they had the Kraft/Nabisco tearpad coupons right up front with a big cracker display. They were for buy 3 Kraft products, get either a salad dressing, Oscar Meyer hot dogs, or Wheat Thins free. (I am sure you know the coupons of which I speak. I recall you got some sweet deals with them a while back.) Anyways, there is also a display sign up front that if you buy $10 worth of Nabsico cookies or crackers you get $10 off 3 packages of Fruit of the Loom basics. So I bought 12 packs of Kool Aid, 4 boxes of Wheat Thins (2.50 each) and three packs of FOL socks ($4.59 each) and got the wheat thins free and $10 off the socks. It was a great deal! Hope that makes sense!

*I added that, you could use the 1.00 off 2 Fruit of the Loom products from the 8/17 Redplum insert to make it an even better deal!

From My Penny Pile:
Shortcuts.com has an ecoupon for 1.00 off yo-plus yogurt you can pair with 1.00 off coupon from the 8/10 paper for a total of .59 for a yo-plus 4pk (this is for Kroger)

From Anonymous:
You can also get a $1 off Chex coupon here

From Julie:
There is also a great deal on jeans for the next two weeks. (at Meijer) If you spend $10 in pepsi products you get $10 off a pair of jeans. They had boys levi's on sale for $12.99 and it actually rang up for $5, but I still got the $10 taken off - great deal!!

From CheapSk8Mom:
I LOVE your match-ups...
I was gonna post a few of mine, but I thought i could just drop a link to the post I just tossed together since there's so many. Links to $3/1 and $2/1 Oscar Mayer Deli Creations, $1.50 off YoPlait Kids yogurts, and the $1/2 GoGurt one too. Click here for her link.

Thanks so much to you all-star commentors!! I know that I truly appreciate your taking the time to share the deals you find and I bet so does everyone else!! Thanks again!!

Those are the best deals I see for now. Here's my plan for the week:

Transaction #1:
Buy 2 Stayfree packages = 9.00
Buy 1 Centrum kids = 7.00
Total = 16.00

Use 2 off 10 coupon found here
Use bogo coupon for Stayfree = -4.50

Total savings = -7.50
Pay 8.50 in cash or ECB's and get back 5 for the Stayfree

Use .75 off 1 Kotex
Use 1.00 off 1 Centrum
Total savings = -3.75
Pay 10.73 in cash or ECB's and get back 1.49 in ECB's for the Kotex and 5.99 in ECB's for the Zipfizz. (7.48 total back)

Transaction #3
Buy 1 Playtex Tampon = 4.99

Buy 1 Centrum Kids = 7.00
Total = 17.98

Use 2 off 10 coupon
Use 1.00 off 1 Playtex

Savings Total = 4.00
Pay 13.98 in cash or ECB's and get back 3 ECB's for Playtex, 5.99 in ECB's for Zipfizz and 5 ECB's for Centrum (13.99 total)

So all together I will pay out in cash or ECB's 33.21 and get back 26.47 in ECB's which is not great but not too bad either considering we need the kids vitamins and that's why there is a big discrepancy.

If you see something great that I missed, please share it!! Thanks!!

My Shopping Trip - 8/22 (Kroger, Meijer & CVS)

Today I needed to do a pretty "big" shopping trip, because we've run a bit low on a few different items. I stopped at Meijer, Kroger and CVS (my usuals!!). Here's what I got:

Kroger:
  • 8 Bottles of Juicy Juice = $20. I used eight $1 off 1 coupons, plus I got $5 off for the Nestle deal. So I paid 7.00 total for 8 bottles which is .88 a piece (a price I'm very happy with).
  • 2 Bags of Frozen Tyson Chicken Breasts on sale buy one get one free. So I paid 9.99 for two bags which comes out to $2 a pound.
  • 1 5lb bag of potatoes = 1.98.
  • 1 loaf of Sara Lee Bread. I used the get one free coupon, so I paid 0.
  • 1 Annie's Organic Macaroni and Cheese = 1.50.
  • 1 Kroger Oyster Crackers = 1.00
Product Total = 47.22
Kroger Deals (Nestle and Tyson)= -14.99
Coupon Total = -10.79
I paid 21.44

CVS:
  • 1 bottle of Benefiber = 12.99
  • I used the $2 off $10 coupon, a $3 off coupon from the receipt and a $2 manufacturer coupon. I used a $4 ECB and put 2.12 on a gift card I got from filling a prescription.

Meijer:
  • 6 Pert Shampoos = 2.99 each (I used my last raincheck to get these at that price). I used six $3 off coupons, so I paid 0.
  • 8 packages of Knorr Rice/Pasta Sides = 8.00. I used four .75 off 2 coupons (2 doubled, 2 didn't) so I paid a total of 4.50
  • 2 packages of Dole fruit cups = 3.50. I used two .75 off 1 coupons and paid a total of 1.50 for two.
  • 2 jars of Dole fruit = 3.50. I used one 1.00 off 2 coupon and paid 2.50 total.

  • 4 Campbell's Selects Soups = 5.00. I used two .50 off 2 coupons and paid 3.00 total for 4.
  • 2 bags of Kibbles N Bits = 8.59. (They are buy one get one free) and I used two 2.00 off 1 coupons and paid 4.59 total for the two bags.
  • 2 Eggo Products = 2.30. I used a 1.00 off 2 coupon and paid 1.30 total.

  • 2 Meijer frozen OJ's = 3.18 (1.59 each)

  • 2 Welch's Juices = 6.18
  • 1 Tyson Whole Chicken = 3.48 (.79 per lb). I used a .55 off 1 coupon and paid 2.48 total.
  • 4 Gallons of Milk = 9.56 (2.39 each)

Coupons - My Organization Process

It has been suggested that I share how I organize my coupons so here's the system I find works best for me. (Please excuse the condition of my envelopes, they need a refreshing!!)

First, I clip ALL coupons (except a very few that even if free I wouldn't want to purchase, like certain medicines/vitamins, personal products or cat food). I clip them all because I have found so many unadvertised deals or clearances while shopping in a store that need a coupon to make it an exceptional deal. I personally, just like having them there and ready to go for that purpose.

Second, my usual schedule is to clip all the coupons on Sunday afternoon. Our family usually just has quiet time at home after church on Sunday's, so this works for our schedule. I buy 6 - 10 newspapers a week (plus my parents give me an extra set or two) and spend about 90 minutes clipping the coupons. I stack all of the like pages and clip them once. I also spend 30 - 45 minutes once a month going through the envelopes to find expired coupons. I use to do this every week, but realized that at least 75% off coupons expire at the end of the month, so it's just easier to do it once a month. So for a month's (4 weeks) worth of time, I spend about 6 1/2 hours total, yet save hundreds of dollars. My time is definitely worth the savings I get by doing it.

Third, the system! I found inspiration from this post by Money Saving Mom. I started with a box just like hers and some white envelopes and index cards. Basically you tuck the flap of the envelope into it, then stand the index card up inside it, push it over to one edge and staple it in place. Then you label each envelope with categories that make sense for you and your family. I use for instance: beverages, deli meat & cheese, frozen breakfast, fresh baked, hair care, laundry, pet care, toothcare, etc.. I also have 3 envelopes at the front of the box for the 3 stores I visit the most: CVS, Meijer and Kroger. I put the store specific coupons and CVS ECB's in there so they're easy to find.

I don't find it too time consuming to just pull out the envelope and search through it for the coupons I need. But you may be asking yourself why my coupon box looks like it ate the coupon box from Money Saving Mom's post. Well, after a month or so, I outgrew the first box and now have one twice as big. Yes, it's big and a bit heavy, but it still fits in the seat of the cart or in the basket if I need to use the seat for a kid. I usually park next to a cart corral if I can so that I can just grab the cart first, and then transfer the coupons to it right away and I don't have to carry it very far!!

Now, if you're wondering if this is really worth it. With all the clipping, organizing, labeling and lugging. Is it really worth it? I guess it just depends on whether saving hundreds of dollars a month is worth it to you. For me it is. I feel like it's a small price to pay for the savings I incur.

Also, Amy alerted me to a post on her blog that shows a different method using a binder that works for her. So click here to see that (it includes a video!!).

So whatever method you choose, consider what would work best for you and then go for it!!! I promise, it's worth it!!!
